About This Spot

Nestled in the heart of the Lower East Side, Ray’s is a bar that strikes a rare balance — it’s the kind of place that buzzes with energy yet never feels rushed or impersonal. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a warm, dim glow that softens the edges of the room, inviting you to pause and slip into the casual rhythm of the night. It’s lively, yes, but with a comfort that suggests this is a spot where regular faces and newcomers alike find their place to unwind.

The pace here is unhurried, even when the bar is full and the hum of conversation washes over the room. The music flows just right, setting the scene without ever becoming background noise — it’s a soundtrack for connection, not distraction. People lean into the moment, whether perched on stools by the bar or gathered in small groups, sharing stories and laughter that ripple through the space.

At the heart of the experience is a bartending staff whose craft and charisma shape more than just drinks. The cocktails arrive thoughtfully made and effortlessly tailored, carrying a sense of care that feels personal rather than formulaic. It’s clear that here, drinks are part of a larger conversation — a chance to savor a finely composed moment as much as the flavors themselves. Recommended is grabbing a seat at the bar, where the atmosphere pulses strongest and the exchanges feel most genuine.

Ray’s embodies that rare downtown spirit — a mix of grit and warmth, high-end taste and casual ease. It’s a place where friends turn into something like family, and where even a tough day can shift into something unexpectedly good. The kind of bar where you might arrive for one drink and stay for the night, caught up in the ebb and flow of easy camaraderie and quiet celebration.

Great kind of high end dive bar on the LES. Place gets packed, we were there on a Tuesday and it was totally full, standing room. We got lucky and grabbed some seats at the bar and posted up for the night. The bartender Peter helped us out, was super friendly and helpful despite the crowd we were always taken care of and never had to wait for a drink. He was handling it all with style and speed. Would come back just for that.

I love rays so very much<3 Very happy and lucky to call the staff my friends. Peter always slings the best cocktails — serves up good vibes, A+ banter, and the kind of energy that turns “just one drink” into “okay fine, one more.” In the best way:) Drinks? Delicious. Vibes? Immaculate. Bartenders? The hottest. Do yourself a favor and grab a seat at the bar. Thank me later.

I came here with some friends after my friend got broken up with and we were greeted by a very handsome rough bearded masculine bartender whose sensual aura took my breath away. I told him our friend's unfortunate situation and he made the entire night a fruitful and beautiful experience. Jamison's drinks were delicious and catered to our taste, he made the best French 95 I have ever had in my life and I will say that my tastebuds are rather refined. He was working alone and single handedly helped a full bar in a timely manner, making sure everyone stayed at the bar having fun for the entire night. His personal catering was consistent and caring to us and his ability to read what we needed before we asked made us feel like we were VIP members of a top club in the city. The bar has a fun, simple, and warm atmosphere that is great for conversation and good times with friends. I recommend coming here with a group and taking a table to play games and listen to the music.

Coming from Texas I was suspicious when I heard it was supposed to represent a "hometown bar". I was pleasantly surprised to see they really nailed the vibe and it was right on point. Everyone knows the most important part of a great hometown bar is a bartender that makes you feel comfortable and have a great time and Peter was awesome. I love coming here any chance I can get. Their N/A options are killer too. Love the margarita!

Ray’s has that effortlessly cool downtown energy — cozy lighting, great music, and the kind of crowd that makes you feel like you’re part of something. It’s the perfect mix of chill and lively, where every drink feels intentional and the vibe just flows. And then there’s Peter. You notice him before you even sit down — confident, funny, easygoing, and yes… those tattoos don’t hurt either. There’s something about the way he moves behind the bar — totally in control, but relaxed — that makes the whole place feel alive. He suggested a drink that was exactly my taste, and somehow managed to keep the entire bar happy without missing a beat. By the end of the night, my friends and I were all saying the same thing: Ray’s is great, but Peter makes it unforgettable.

Went here for Christmas eve after seeing they had free food if you purchased a drink. I got there early to pregame while waiting for my friend. She kept running late so I ended up just leaving, but the drinks, service, and atmosphere were great. The prices are pretty insane, though. I had 3 amaretto sours (that I barely felt and I'm a lightweight) and left with a $61.86 charge. Yikes, lol. Didn't have any of the food. Just the free Chinese food they offered.
